Hockey Rink Dimensions

Basically, there are two official hockey rink dimensions for:

  • the National Hockey League (NHL)
  • the Olympic & International Ice Hockey

And there are many unofficial backyard rink dimensions for ... as I like to say for fun ...

  • the Backyard Hockey League !  :-)

National Hockey League (NHL)

The official ice hockey rink dimensions for the NHL are 85 feet wide by 200 feet long (25.91 meters by 60.96 meters), for a total of 17,000 square feet or 1,579.47 square meters. Hockey Rink Diagram

Backyard Rink Dimensions

For our Backyard Hockey League... :)
you can make rinks of all sizes ... and different shapes limited only by your own imagination.

When I built my first rink, it was 16 feet by 32 feet and had square corners. Now its dimensions are 32 feet by 40 feet. My kids have grown since the first years of our backyard ice rink. I have made plans to increase it to 48 feet by 64 feet.
